The Good Heart

A friendly taverna and local-products deli in Akrotiri, near the island's southwest tip and the archaeological site, a drive from Perissa. It pairs honest Greek home cooking with Santorinian wine and produce you can buy to take home, a low-key stop away from the beach resorts. The family has been at it since 1960, Anna and her family still run it, and the wine on the table comes from their own vineyards, alongside homemade local products. The kitchen sticks to traditional family recipes: chicken gyros and pork souvlaki, moussaka, soutzoukakia with saffron rice, grilled octopus and shrimp saganaki. It stands on the road out to the Akrotiri lighthouse, about three kilometres short of it, with a terrace looking over the Aegean.
