The Cave of Nikolas

Updated 2026On Akrotiri beach, a drive from Perissa, Perissa

A characterful seafood taverna right on the water at Akrotiri, near the island's southwest tip and the archaeological site, a drive round the bay from Perissa. Started decades ago by Uncle Nikolas out of an old boat shelter, it works with the day's catch, the menu shifts with what the fishermen bring in, for fresh fish, lobster pasta and seafood in a stone-walled dining room. Around seventy per cent of what reaches the table, depending on the month, comes from the family's own production, a farm supplying meat, cheese, vegetables and wine, while chef Minas Alefragkis picks the fish daily from local markets. Uncle Nikolas built the place with his own hands as a young man, and his wife, Aunt Efstathia, was the cook who made its name.
