Bright rooms with balconies and a relaxed courtyard make it a comfortable mid-range base in Perissa. It is a small place, ten en suite double or twin rooms, all with balconies and air conditioning, and the pool has a jacuzzi and whirlpool built into it. The hotel puts itself 300 metres from the black sand, a five-minute walk to Perissa beach, and says it has recently been renovated and refurbished, with breakfast served in a lounge that opens onto the terrace. The season runs 1 May to 15 October, with check-in from 15:00 and check-out at 11:00.

The calm, self-contained layout suits couples and families who want the quieter, southern stretch of the black-sand coast. It bills itself as a four-star resort perfectly located on the black sandy beach of Perivolos, and the room list runs from single and double standards through studios and superior doubles to junior suites and family rooms. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style in the resort restaurant, and there is a pool bar for the hours in between.

A neoclassical-styled hotel with a large pool set just behind the black sand, its peach-and-white façade and columned terrace giving it a grand, old-fashioned feel. The hotel describes itself as sitting on the beach itself, which puts the sunbeds and beach bars on the doorstep. Rooms run from economy doubles and triples up through superior rooms to maisonettes and apartments, so it covers a wider range than most of the beachfront places, and its own Pergola Restaurant does Greek dishes built on local produce. Worth knowing before you book a shoulder-season trip: it runs a defined season, opening 15 April and closing 10 November, with check-in from 15:00 and check-out at 11:00.

A cluster of whitewashed studios and suites arranged around courtyards and plunge pools draped in bougainvillea, a short walk from the sand. The bright, private terraces make it an easy, good-value base in Perissa. It is larger than it looks from the street, 56 Cycladic-style rooms and studios in total, and the range runs from plain doubles and studios up to honeymoon and junior suites with their own outdoor whirlpool, and a junior suite with a private pool. There is a palm-fringed pool and pool bar at the centre of it, a gym on site, and guests can use the spa at its sister property, TUI Blue Meltemi.
